Cádomotus

Twenty-five years of skating engineering, pointed at the run off the bike.

 Most triathlon shoes are road shoes with a bigger opening. Cádomotus is the only company in the world that designs cycling shoes exclusively for triathlon — built from the sole up around flying mounts, sockless riding, extreme heat, and a run that decides the result.

 The company was founded in the Netherlands in 2006 by Diederik Hol, an industrial designer from TU Delft who had already spent a decade building elite speed skates. That matters more than it sounds. A speed skater delivers enormous power through a 1.1mm blade, barefoot inside a rigid carbon shell, cornering at 60 km/h. Solving that problem produced CarbonShell — a carbon monocoque sole that Cádomotus states is four times stiffer and three millimetres thinner than conventional flat carbon.

Thinner is the point. Lower stack height shortens the lever arm on your ankle and calf through every pedal stroke, which preserves exactly the muscle groups you are about to need. Cádomotus calls this Transition Performance: optimising not the pedal stroke in isolation, but the whole sequence from T1 through T2 and into the run. Almost nobody else designs for it.

 Hol came to triathlon after being invited to the 2017 ITU Grand Final in Rotterdam. He watched what triathletes actually needed from a cycling shoe — get in fast, close it with one hand, ride kilometres before it is properly fastened — and concluded the market was serving them badly. Within a decade the triathlon division outgrew the speed skating division that founded the company.

 Why the house carries them

We ride and race in the Caribbean. Heat and humidity destroy equipment designed for northern European spring classics, and a shoe that traps water after a swim is a shoe that ruins a marathon. Cádomotus builds for sockless riding and hot conditions as a starting assumption rather than an edge case. It is the range we would choose for ourselves, which is the only test that matters here.

 Fit

 Cádomotus offers two constructions across most models. CarbonShell is the rigid carbon shell for maximum stiffness and direct power transfer. 4E is the comfort line — the same high-modulus carbon sole, without the shell, and a wider fit.

Length is the easy part. Volume is where most people get it wrong, and it is the single commonest cause of a returned shoe. If you are not certain whether you are a low, medium or high volume foot, book a fitting before you buy. Fifteen minutes in Caguas, or by video if you are off-island.
