Most riders never think about the thru-axle. It is the last part anyone upgrades and the first place manufacturers save money — a steel rod with a lever on it, doing a job nobody watches. OVERFAST rebuilt it in carbon and took it down to 27g ±3g, which is roughly a third of what came with your frame.
It is not a weight-weenie novelty. The axle is a structural member: it clamps the hub into the dropout and carries every watt you put through the rear triangle. Making it lighter without making it flex is genuinely difficult, which is why almost nobody bothers.
